Benjamin the Doxie

Meet your adoptable dog of the week: Benjamin.

Benjamin is a 1 year old Standard Dachshund. This regal-looking boy was wandering the streets of Manatee County. When he was picked up, he was severely emaciated as well as heart worm positive and taken to the shelter at Manatee Animal Services. Thankfully, the great people at Florida Dachshund Rescue pulled Benjamin out to be fostered and treated for heart worm.

His current foster mom, Carolyn, tell us that he is just the sweetest boy. We understand that he loves other dogs, both big and little. He’s also doing very well with cats, considering he had never met one previously. He actually hid under a chair when he first met them but has warmed up to them nicely. Looking for a workout companion? Benjamin is a great power walker on his leash.

Though we’ll never know what his life was like before fate stepped in to rescue him, we do know he suffered some kind of abuse, as he is afraid of many things including sudden movements and noises. But this smart Doxie is coming to realize his bad days are forever behind him. Benjamin takes a little time to feel at ease and be comfortable around new people but once he does, he’ll be licking your face with pure happiness.
