Love me Tender Valentine Event at MCAS

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, Manatee County Animal Services (MCAS) is hosting “Love Me Tender: Half-Off Adoption Fee Weekend” on February 17-18. With hundreds of adoptable dogs and cats to choose from, it’s an ideal time find the love of your life…

All cat and dog adoptions include spay/neuter, microchip and rabies certificate. Manatee County residents are required to license their new pet for an additional $15. The special promotion will only be held at MCAS located at 305 25th Street West in Palmetto. The location at 1002 Manatee Avenue West in Bradenton (cats only) will be closed for temporary maintenance.

Currently, one-third of the adoptable dogs at MCAS have tested positive for heartworms, a highly treatable condition. No longer waiting to be adopted to receive treatment, select dogs will begin treatment and be housed in “Heartworm Hotel” (courtesy of Animal Network, Inc.), a special area to recuperate at the shelter. These dogs will be available for foster or fee-waived adoption and the cost of the treatment is completely covered through the “Heal My Heart” Campaign by Friends of Manatee County Animal Services (FOMCAS.) During the adoption event, FOMCAS will have a booth promoting their organization and collecting donations. It is just one more way that MCAS is innovating to save the lives of the homeless animals in our county.

Continuing the award-winning collaboration recognized by the Sarasota Community Foundation, MCAS is partnering again with Forget-Me-Not Animal Rescue for this special event. Forget-Me-Not will be promoting their “Unforgett-A-Bull” Campaign, which brings awareness and education about Bully Breeds, which comprise a large portion of the MCAS shelter population.

Cub Scout Pack 191 of the Boy Scouts of America (Manatee District) will be collecting nonperishable food items to donate to Meals on Wheels.
