DogOlympics to Benefit Local Shelter Pets at Bayside Pet Resort

The second annual DogOlympics will be held tomorrow, Saturday October 25th, 2014  at Bayside Pet Resort 8154 N. Tamiami Trail from 10-2.   Dogs are invited to participate in a variety of contests from Smallest Dog,  Red Light, Green Light (a call and return trial), Shedding Contest, and the popular competition of The Longest Tail.

2013 Smallest Dog Winners

Contest registration fees are $3.00 each or you may purchase a bandana for $15.00 which will allow you unlimited access to competitions.

The mission of the DogOlympics it to bring together more than 9 local rescue groups and local pet lovers to help raise awareness for shelter pets and increase adoptions.   Shelter pets are often victims of families in financial crisis, divorce or relocation and deserve not only a second chance but real families that they can love and be loved by.   It’s fun for the family and supports a cause that is close to our hearts.  Stop by with your dog for chance to win, and a tail-waggin’ good time.

Pet Fair and Blessing at Church of the Trinity MCC

Wet weather did not dampen the spirit today at Church of the Trinity’s Pet Fair and Blessing.   Dozens of beautiful dogs and their people participated in the event including a  Person-Pup Look-Alike Contest.

Diva and Daddy

Vendors serving the local pet community were hand, including Good Citizen Dog Training’s Andy Sand’s who conducted a socialization class with adoptable pets from the Humane Society of Manatee County and other pets with their owners.

Local rescue organization, Satchel’s Last Resort Founders Mike Giblen and Page Knoebel brought their good cheer and
and some adorable, adoptable dogs looking for permanent loving homes.

We think this little guy definitely had a good time, while enjoying his very own massage from Sue Redfield.

A big thanks to MCC Trinity, Cheryl Brady and all of the volunteers who contributed to helping provide a Blessing for Pet in Bradenton!   Here are some other pictures of this fun morning!

Dog Days of Autumn

Saturday at Adventure Park in Lakewood Ranch drew a nice crowd out for the Humane Society at Lakewood Ranch’s 2nd Annual Dog Days event. Dozens of vendors, food trucks and contestants in the Hot Dog Cook-Off were on hand to ply their wares.

We were especially excited to see Doris Schmucker of a darling design with her portraits of cats and dogs. The Hot Dog Cook-Off Competition even brought out ABC 7’s John Scalzi to taste and judge the incredible entries. The prize winner was Go Go Dogs.

John Scalzi of ABC 7 and Christine Legge, Chairperson

We spotted Max, a gorgeous Akita/Huskie Mix whose blue eyes had us entranced. He’s alert, friendly and a great family dog. Available for adoption from the Humane Society at Lakewood Ranch.

Congratulations to all of the volunteers, organizers and participants in this fundraiser for one our community’s 501(c)-3 organizations dedicated to helping pets in need.

Get involved! Manatee County Animals need help

When:   Monday September 19, 4pm – 6pm

Where:  1112 Manatee Avenue West Bradenton, (Manatee County Building) Fourth Floor
For the many of you who have not heard of the group, this is a group of animal rescues, shelters and lovers who get together to help one another. We go around the table to see if any group is having issues and can get help from another group and the county gives a update on Animal Services and the issues we are currently working on.   The mission of this meeting is to share information so that all of us involved with animal rescue are on the same page,  may speak  with one voice.
As many of you are aware, there are many issues to discuss. A lot has happened over the last few months.    We are getting ready to begin the approval process of the “no kill” plan, anti-tethering ordinance, spay/neuter with Humane Society of Bradenton, report from Animal Services Advisory Board and many other issues. Please feel free to come, listen and get involved!
