Manatee County Dogs Need Your Help!

Can you help on a Saturday?

Snowbirds are headed North, and we are left with a shortage of dog walkers, event goer’s, and Meowtown folks. VOlUNTEERS ARE NEEDED TO HIT THE STREETS! The best part is we can bring our animals with us and promote adoptions as well as recruit newbies.

Commissioner Whitmore is kindly asking that you attend ONE event per month (for a few hours)!
Even if you can just man a booth and collect emails, this would greatly help spread the word of our need to collaborate a summer team. Here are the dates that are open and need to be filled.

MARCH

21ST- MANATEE PRIDE IN BRADENTON 12-5 OR
21ST- LINCOLN PARK GARDEN GALA IN PALMETTO 3-6

APRIL

11TH- CELEBRATION OF PETS IN SARASOTA 10-4
18TH- PET’S LIFE NATURALLY ANNIVERSARY PARTY IN PALMETTO 10-3
25TH- MIXON’S FRUIT FARM IN BRADENTON 10-3

If you can help, please email Samantha Wolfe. Samantha is the Volunteer Specialist for Manatee County Animal Services.

Paws In Motion this Saturday, March 7th, 2015

The 9th Annual Paws in Motion will be held this Saturday at the Bradenton River Walk, from 8am to 2pm. The benefit helps the Humane Society of Manatee County to shelter and find loving homes for abandoned cats and dogs.

In addition to the walk along the beautiful riverfront, local pet business and other vendors will be present to support the HSMC and meet and greet the community.

The Doggie Fun Zone will return this year with their lure motivated obstacle course. DOGS LOVE THIS!! They get to chase faux prey and run around and act like dogs.

If you haven’t tried this with your pup – you will have a blast and your dog will thank you for it and probably take a nice nap after the event. Food, entertainment and family fun!

Shop for a Cause at Nate’s in Cooper Creek

Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue, a Bradenton-Sarasota nonprofit has won the hearts and minds of so many by their service to needy animals in our area. From assisting in the rescue of dogs in hoarding cases to creating a family friendly adoption center at the Ranch on Lorraine Road, they have broken new ground locally in the handling of pets in need.

Did you know that they also have a retail store for pet lovers in Cooper Creek? This cozy little boutique is tucked into the shopping center near Carmel Kitchen and is chock full of unique items at reasonable prices.

We found cool graphic, ceramic coffee cups that are breed specific.

And a plethora of useful, but fun and funky items like this retro food canister.

If you are looking for something different as a Valentine’s Day gift, or just want to browse around for a treat for yourself check out Nate’s. There are usually adoptable dogs and kitties there too!

Big dogs need big walks!

Love dogs but can’t have one in your current residence?   Manatee County Animal Services is looking for volunteers to walk big dogs.   Getting out of their kennels and getting some exercise and love helps shelter dogs feel more at ease.  When they are happier, they show it and are far more likely to be adopted.   Can you spare some time to help dogs bridge the gap from shelter to home?  You will feel better too!

Membership has its privileges: Canine Ranch and Country Club Grand Opening 10-30-2014

For years, we’ve been using phrases like pet parents, pets are part of the family, and ensuring the mental and physical well being of our dogs by taking them out socialize. Pet business owners have catered to the new elevated status of our four-legged friends by offering canine massage, upgraded nutritional options, daycare with playgroups and even advanced medical treatments from Veterinarians.

A new hybrid option combining the needs of both dog and owner has now opened in Manatee County. The Canine Ranch and Country Club at 5557 Lorraine Road, Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, FL offers a full suite of services for dogs and some upgrades for Mom and Dad too. The project has been spearheaded by Heather Perry, a long-time animal lover, who originally purchased the property for her horse.

Heather Perry
The nine acre parcel includes a Members Lodge complete with television, lounge, juice bar and a library with books dedicated specifically to canine topics.

Among the amenities are: Canine Massage, Doga(Yoga for dogs and owners), Canine Coaches who will take your dog through their paces on the trails, and a regulation agility course. Perry also intends to offer basic obedience classes on site. Owners will have the choice between indoor daycare for their pup or a play day in the fenced in paddock. Full service grooming options from a quick bath to precision scissor cuts are also offered. A 20,000 gallon pool will give pups a place to cool off or for dogs recovering from surgery to do some rehabilitation exercises.

In addition to the Members Lounge, Perry is building a putting green on the property for golfers who want a little green time will their dog is being groomed or working out with a Canine Coach.

The building itself has been loving restored by Perry and her family adding new square footage to the home that was originally built in the 1950’s. She’s employed her own sense of style by finding unique pieces of furniture and repurposing them specifically for the Canine Ranch and Country Club.

The Grand Opening of the Canine Ranch and Country Club is tomorrow – Thursday, October 30 from 2-6 and will include a Halloween Costume Contest for pets. For more information, email [email protected] or call 941-745-5959
